Russell
W. "Bud" Richmond *
The rich
mellow voice of Bud Richmond was first heard on
Cleveland
radio in 1931 when he started with WHK – WCLE. Bud is remembered as the
announcer with the
Cleveland
Orchestra and also his
Cleveland
Indians broadcasts with Jack Graney. He served as both Program Director and
Production Manager at WHK until he went to WRRN, Warren, in 1942 as General
Manager. He returned to work for the United Broadcasting Company when it
opened WHKK in
Akron
. During his tenure as General Manager, he became deeply involved in
community work. He served as president of the Tuberculosis Association,
President of the
Akron
Advertising Council and was a member of the Board of Family Services.
Because of his devotion to the community and its social concerns, he was
named the first Executive Director of the United Fund of
Akron
and
Summit
County
. He left
Akron
in 1957 to be Executive Director of the United Fund of
New Orleans
. He died in
New Orleans
in 1959.
