Robert Paolucci

      Radio network musician Robert Paolucci earned a scholarship to Julliard in 1930. After moving to New York, he won principal trombone chair in the Columbia Symphony Orchestra, a position he held for 16 years. He performed on many Bell Telephone Hour and Voice of Firestone broadcasts. Paolucci played and recorded with such well-known musicians as Percy Faith and Andre Kostalanitz. He also was a member of the orchestra for the famous Orson Wells’ War of the Worlds program.

He was injured while playing on an early, live Jack Benny TV show and returned to Akron in 1953. He played with the Akron Symphony (1953-1968) and was present for the final radio broadcast of the Firestone Hour from Akron. He taught music at both Kent State and the University of Akron. Paolucci owned a music store in Akron for many years.
