Dr. Marion S. Harvey *

      Dr. Marion S. Harvey came to Akron from Bloomington, Illinois in 1953 as pastor of the First United Methodist Church. He soon organized, established and nourished a top quality broadcast of worship from the church sanctuary on WAKR Radio until his death in 1976. He was a very energetic and active person who worked extremely hard to revive the downtown first church. Many community people, as well as church members (especially shut-ins and others who could not attend) listened to the radio service. Dr. Harvey was a dynamic leader and his influence is still felt at First United and in the community. The broadcast continues today from the groundwork laid by Dr. Harvey, every Sunday at 11 a.m.
