Lucile
Keitt Johnson
Lucile was
born on January 19, 1901, and became a talented professional pianist and
accompanist for many of
Akron
’s early radio artists; including, Kenny Ferguson, Wendell Phillips, The
Coquettes, Ange Morelli and Harold Smith. Lucile’s radio career began in
1928 and continued for seven years on stations WFJC, WJW and WADC. It was
during those early pioneer days of
Akron
radio that Lucille Keitt met her future husband, Wayne Johnson, the
well-known announcer and newscaster.
Wayne
was the announcer for Marshall Jones (now Grandpa Jones of “Hee Haw”)
when he began on
Akron
radio. Lucile and Wayne spend their retirement years at 1741 Melody Lane in
Medina,
Ohio
.
