John Koenig * WJW was the
home station of John Koenig. Throughout the 1930’s, John Koenig was not
only the host but was also the singer, the violin and mandolin player and
the leader of the orchestra of “The German Hour” on WJW. But this
connection to the German community was not limited to this radio show. He
performed at many functions including 50 years of weekly performances at the
Sons of Herman Club. He was the conductor of the Koenig Orchestra which
accompanied various German operettas in the 1930’s. John Koenig died in
