James J. Dunlevy *

      Although he was born in Pittsburgh in 1911, Jimmy Dunlevy spent his early days in radio as an announcer on both WJW and WADC. In fact, the Dunlevy family became a prominent family in the Rubber City . In the 1930’s and 1940’s, Jimmy was very active in both the communications and entertainment areas. He was very active in the Weathervane Playhouse and performed in many plays. He wrote and announced commercials for many of Akron ’s business concerns.
      During World War II, he worked in Special Services and was stationed at Camp White in Oregon . While he was there, he interviewed many celebrities, including Joe Louis and General Westmoreland.
      He and his wife, Margaret, decided to make their home in Medford , Oregon , after his discharge from the service. He soon joined KMED in Medford as an announcer, and became manager of KYJC. Later, he entered politics. He was elected to Medford City Council and later elected Mayor of Medford , serving two terms. He died suddenly of a heart attack in 1972.
