Jaybird has been in the Akron area for the past 21 years on WSLR, but, he has worked in radio and TV for 43 years. He began at the age of 14 in Tucumcari , New Mexico , and has worked all over Texas and has managed stations in Colorado and California . But being a country disc jockey is what he enjoys most and he has received almost every award in country music. He has been selected Ohio Disc Jockey of the Year seven times and WSM Radio in Nashville and the Grand Ole Opry have named him top disc jockey in the nation. Jaybird has given his time and talent to benefit many charitable organizations in Akron including the American Cancer Society, Easter Seals, Dapper Dan Club, Weaver School, Salvation Army and theYusef Khan Grotto. He has served as chairman or president for many of them. He and his wife, Joyce, live near Twin Lakes and plan to retire there after his radio career. |
