Ivan William Pencin

Born in 1906, this man is not only a radio pioneer in Akron public broadcasting, but is a “patriarch” to the various ethnic groups of the Balkans for his 40 years announcing, producing, and directing outstanding local personalities and talented artists in both vocal and instrumental music on the Akron area radio stations. His aim was always to emphasize the common thread of peace among nations, and his famous radio program, “The Voice Of The Balkans” promoted that greater understanding of all cultures. He had a great pride in his heritage, and a love for America . He, personally, will always be loved and remembered for the beautiful radio programs on WJW, WHKK and WADC that were filled with the history and music of the Balkan countries. Now 80 years of age, the Akron Radio Hall of Fame proudly honors him.
