Ilene Mintz Hoover Ilene was born
into the Akron radio scene as the daughter of John “Jake” Mintz, WADC
control operator. She joined WADC in 1943 as a control operator and, to our
knowledge, Jake and Ilene was the only father-daughter combo in the country.
In 1945, she moved to WHKK, where she did board work for such shows as
“Charming Children”, “Man on the Street”, and “Mel Miller”. She
met her husband, Chuck, at WHKK. They have two sons. Later, Ilene had a
career in fashion retailing, but returned to radio at WFMR in |
