Harold L. Hageman * Harold
L. Hageman had a lengthy career in radio beginning in 1931 as an announcer
on WADC. He married Lucille Veling, a popular singer with Denny Thompson’s
Orchestra. He broadcasted the finals of the All-American Soap Box Derby on
CBS, NBC, and Mutual. He broadcasted 500 Man-On-The-Street programs from
downtown Akron. He broadcasted the 1964 Democratic National Convention from
Atlantic City. He interviewed Eddie Rickenbacker, Richard Nixon, Harry
Truman, Lyndon Johnson, John W. Bricker and many other notables. After 26
years at WADC, Red became News Director of at WCUE in 1956. He became News
Director of WAKR in 1959 and remained there 14 years. |
