                 Gladys Ammon
Gladys was born in 1911 and began her career in radio at WADC in 1942. She served in the capacities of control operator, musical director and announcer until 1965. She became known as the “Sweetheart of Akron radio” when she began airing her own daily program “Sleepy Time Gal” six days a week for nine years on WADC. This program featured weather information, quotes and humor, listeners’ birthdays and anniversaries plus the musical requests for popular, standard and classic recordings. The tremendous mail response attested to the popularity of her broadcasts. Gladys was news director for the Akron Advertising Club for two years and was a judge for the 1959 annual awards contest sponsored by the Advertising Federation of America .
