Ange Lombardi

      From 1940 to 1968, Ange Lombardi was a name that was often heard on WJW, WAKR and WADC. Ange was a popular pianist/conductor who probably is best remembered for his “Beat the Expert” program which was aired on WAKR five days a week for five years. The program was announced by Alan Freed and was a forerunner of the national radio and TV show “Stop the Music.” He conducted the studio orchestra at WADC and appeared with his own orchestra on WAKR under the name “Andre Ponselle”. WAKR carried his orchestra on remote from the Mayflower Hotel for two years. Before his Akron radio debut, he had appeared on the CBS network (277 stations) from Buffalo , NY , from 1934 to 1936.
