DR. OLIN HARRIS, SR

      Dr. Olin Harris, Sr. is a broadcast legend! In 1957, with a portion of faith and 15 minutes of aisthne, Olin launched his broadcast career as the Founder and Executive Producer of “Echoes of Glory” on WKBO 1230AM. In 1966, during the heat of the Civil Rights Movement, Olin became a broadcast pioneer when he broke the color barrier and was hired full-time with the CBS Affiliate of WHP Radio and Television Stations. With Olin’s dynamic skill and inviting television presence, WHP’s Evening News achieved dominance of Central Pennsylvania’s TV news viewing audience. In addition, he gained regional acclaim as WHP’s radio host of “Music Til Midnight” and talk show host of “Harrisburg Night Call.” In 1972, while still employed with WHP, Olin broke new ground as the first African American broadcast/advertising Sales Executive, and later as General Sales Manager of WHBG. With a deep commitment to preserve the rich, African American tradition of Gospel music, Olin’s radio broadcasts have achieved market dominance that continues to this day.
      He is the Founder and Executive Producer of “Gospel Variations,” WWII 720-The Rock, “Gospel Cavalcade Live,” Cumulus Media, WTCY 1400 “The Touch,” an Affiliate of ABC Radio Networks and “To God Be The Glory,” WGCB TV-49. He has also served as a staff announcer on WDAC 94.5 FM, the “Voice of Christian Radio.” In addition to broadcasting, Olin is a renowned baritone soloist with major performances at the White House for President Ronald Regan and with the World Baptist Alliance in London, Paris, Amsterdam, West Berlin, Yugoslavia and Cardiff Wales. After retiring from WHP, Olin attended Lancaster Theological Seminary, and is an ordained Minister. In 2003, Central Pennsylvania College recognized the lifetime achievements of Reverend Harris and awarded him with an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters for his “Intellectual and Spiritual Leadership for the Betterment of Human Wellbeing.”
      He was also the recipient of the “NAACP- Man of the Year Award.” Dr. Olin Harris, Sr. is a legend in his own time. He has created a “living legacy” of three generations in broadcasting by passing on his passion to his daughter, Kirsten Nicole Harris and grandson, Christopher Olin Harris. With a broadcast career that spans 50 years, Dr. Harris is one of Pennsylvania’s most prolific and trusted figures in radio and television broadcasting.
