George “Toby” Young, Jr. has been an active radio and television personality in the (heater Harrisburg area since 1958. Mr. Young produced and hosted True Gospel, a program featuring local and national gospel artists on Suburban Cable. He also hosted the talk show From Where I Sit which aired on WTPA and WHTM. One of the most notable charitable contributions Mr. Young made during his television career was serving as co-host and talent coordinator for the March of Dimes Telethon. His radio broadcast Echoes of Glory, has been a standard of excellence in transmitting gospel music and providing relevant information to listeners since its inception more than 48 years ago. Mr. Young’s radio broadcasting career began at WKBO radio, where he produced, wrote, created, and hosted the Toby Young Show, Jazz Today, and Echoes of Glory,” which became his radio ministry. Echoes of Glory remains one of the most listened to programs on Sunday mornings, featuring gospel music, church and civic news, dedications, and other valuable information to its listeners. His excellence in hosting Echoes of Glory has earned him the reputation, “If you want to know what is happening, listen to ‘TY’.” In 1971, Mr. Young transferred to WCMB and WMIX-FM where he continued his radio ministry, Echoes of Glory. For his dedicated service to the radio music ministry, Mr. Young was the recipient of the People’s Choice Gb Award as Announcer of the Year for his radio broadcast in 1991 and 1992. In August 2006, he was recognized by the Gospel Announcers Guild for 30 years of service. He currently hosts his radio ministry at WTKT 1460 AM. Mr. Young is also founder and president of the Gospel Announcers Guild and a member of Central Pennsylvania’s Gospel Music Workshop of America. He is the recipient of over 260 civic, community, and church awards in recognition of his tremendous contributions through his radio music ministry. He currently serves as a member of National Progressive Afflnnative Action Officers, Pennsylvania Chapter of the National Association of Radio and TV Artists. He is a lifelong member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church. |
